Texas Prairie Farms and Artisan Baking Co.
Seasonal CSA
If you love to eat in season and love to try new fresh locally grown vegetables our CSA is for you.
Please e-mail kgerdeman@netzero.com for an application or for more information.
WHAT IS A CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a direct connection to your farmer. We create a unique opportunity for you to receive a weekly share of seasonal locally grown produce harvested fresh from our farm, plus a share of fresh baked breads form Artisan Baking Company.
We share a commitment with our members and hope for a bountiful harvest worth celebrating. All of our vegetables are grown using natural methods. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used.
Our CSA is for those committed members who pre-pay for a weekly supply of produce. This helps cover our cost for seed, organic fertilizers, equipment, labor, etc. while providing our members with access to fresh locally grown produce. We plan and work the garden and greenhouses to provide the members with an equal share of seasonal produce.
WHAT WILL I RECEIVE?
You will receive at least six to eight different types of vegetables, herbs and fresh baked bread each week.
Our farm grows over 60 varieties each season, however, production is always dependent upon the weather. Every family is different, so we are offering two sizes.
A full share will generally provide enough food for a couple or a normal family of four. A half share will generally feed a single person or a couple who doesn’t consume large amounts of vegetables. We love to grow gourmet and unusual vegetables you do not normally find at the grocery.
Fall/Winter Produce (September-December) We start off with squash, okra, southern peas, asparagus beans, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and other hot weather crops. As the weather cools we will have green beans, greens, broccoli, winter squash, sweet potatoes, lettuce, kale, collards, mustard greens, beets, turnips, scallions, fall potatoes, chinese cabbage, kohlrabi, herbs, sugar and snow peas rutabaga, spinach, cabbage, carrots, radish, tomatillos, and maybe some storage onions and garlic, dried black beans and sun dried tomatoes, and more!
